Bringing Down the Duke - Evie Dunmore
Date Read: Sept 14, 2019
Review: Fantastic debut novel. Can't wait to read the next one. Annabelle was a strong, smart, adventurous heroine. Sebastian was a forboding, strong, smart hero - if a bit conservative. The plot with women's rights and the historic Married Women's Property Act was timely and inspiring. Loved the passionate pull between the main couple. The secondary characters were well fleshed out and worthy of the subsequent titles in this series. Addicting!
Series: League of Extraordinary Women #1
Type: Victorian
Heat: 7/10
Tropes: Enemies to Lovers
Premise: Annabelle can be a maid at her cousin's house or go to Oxford University on suffragette scholarship, so of course she does that. While there, she meets other like-minded women who are protesting for women's rights. She collides into the Duke of Montgomery - Sebastian, and is treated poorly by his guard (We later find out Sebastian wasn't too happy about that) while handing out pamphlets against the Married Women's Property Act. Sesbastian, trying to regain all his family's lands, is on the opposite side supporting the Tories for Queen Victoria.
The Good:
The Bad: Sebastian asking her to be his mistress a few times before he sees the light.
